Festival Webcast Production for the ABR Festival
The Adventure Bike Rider Festival brings together live music, guest speakers, competitions and thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts at Ragley Hall in Warwickshire.
WaveFX built a pop-up broadcast studio in the heart of the festival and produced a one-hour live show every evening, giving people at home a chance to join the event.
The client brief
With so much happening across the site, the organisers wanted a daily programme that could capture the best moments and share them with riders unable to attend.
Each show needed to combine studio interviews with footage gathered around the festival, including motorcycles on the 20km Adventure Trail, new bike demonstrations, competitions and practical advice from experienced riders.
The programme would be streamed through the ABR Festival website and its social media channels.
Production team perspective
“Festival production moves quickly. We’re filming across the site, editing highlights within hours and building each programme around a fixed live schedule. Its controlled chaos, but every show went out on time, the client was delighted and lots of positive online comments” Peter Harmer, Videographer, WaveFX
Audience size, locations and platform
Thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts watched the broadcasts live and on demand from across the UK and Europe.
Each nightly programme was streamed through the ABR Festival website using a customisable player and shared across multiple social media channels. This gave viewers several ways to watch, comment and keep up with the event.
Production setup
The temporary festival studio included multiple cameras, professional sound, lighting, graphics and live vision mixing.
Throughout the day, the WaveFX camera team filmed interviews, demonstrations, competitions and activity around the site. The footage was then edited and prepared for the evening broadcast.
The studio team combined this newly edited material with live presenters, interviews and festival updates to create a different one-hour show each night.
Festival webcast production challenges and how we addressed them
The production team had only a few hours to turn the day’s activity into a complete live programme. Editors worked throughout the festival, preparing interviews and highlights while the camera crew continued filming new material.
The size of the site was another consideration. A clear filming schedule helped the crew move between the studio, Adventure Trail, demonstration areas and entertainment stages without missing the main stories.
As an outdoor production, the webcast also needed dependable power and internet connectivity. The streaming connection was monitored throughout each show, with recordings made locally alongside the live broadcast.
Careful planning kept the programme organised while leaving enough flexibility to include unexpected interviews and moments from around the festival.
Measurable outcome
Across the four-day festival, WaveFX produced four one-hour live evening shows and captured more than 30 interviews.
The team also created approximately two hours of edited and colour-graded content during the event, ready to play in the nightly broadcasts.
The live shows extended the festival beyond Ragley Hall, while the interviews and highlights created an ongoing collection of video content for the ABR website and social channels.
