Tesco Wine Club Live: Bringing the Wine Tasting Home
Wine tasting has always been about conversation. Asking questions, discovering something new and hearing the stories behind every bottle are all part of the experience.
Tesco wanted to recreate that atmosphere online for members of its Wine Club, allowing customers from across the UK to take part in a live interactive tasting without leaving home. Hosted by Master of Wine Laura Jewell alongside wine writer Helen McGinn, the event combined expert advice, food pairing tips and live audience questions in a relaxed 30 minute broadcast.
Interactive Live Streaming Challenge
A wine tasting isn’t a presentation.
The audience needed to feel involved, not like they were simply watching another webinar. Questions had to be answered live, the presenters needed to interact naturally with each other and the production had to feel warm, informal and enjoyable to watch.
At the same time, the webcast had to sit seamlessly within the Tesco website, making it easy for thousands of viewers to join without downloading software or creating an account.
The Solution
Working from a central London hotel, we designed a compact broadcast studio that kept the focus firmly on the presenters and the wines.
Our team supplied the complete production, including cameras, lighting, sound, vision mixing and streaming, while our web developers created a bespoke video player that was embedded directly into the Tesco Wine Club website. Live audience questions flowed naturally into the conversation, creating an experience that felt much closer to an in-person tasting than a traditional webcast.
The result was a webcast that was informative, entertaining and, above all, enjoyable to watch.
The Results
The live event allowed Tesco to connect directly with wine enthusiasts across the country, extending the reach of the Wine Club far beyond the venue itself.
More importantly, it demonstrated how a professionally produced webcast can create genuine audience interaction. Instead of simply talking to customers, Tesco was able to have a live conversation with them, building stronger engagement while creating valuable content that continued to support the Wine Club after the broadcast had ended.
What the Client Said
“WaveFX helped us create exactly the experience we were hoping for. The webcast felt relaxed, interactive and professionally produced from beginning to end. The audience engagement was fantastic, and the feedback from Wine Club members was incredibly positive.” Tesco Wine Club Marketing Team
From the Crew
This was one of those productions that never felt like work. Listening to Laura and Helen chatting about wine while viewers sent in questions created a genuinely relaxed atmosphere in the studio. It reminded us that the best live broadcasts don’t always need a big stage, sometimes all you need are great presenters and a conversation people want to be part of.
Our Interactive Live Streaming Advice
