Helping Thousands Remember Together

Some events deserve to reach far beyond the people in the room. To mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War, WaveFX was asked to film and live stream Voices of the Great War, a moving performance held in Hyde Park, London. Featuring words taken from the letters and journals of soldiers and their families, the production gave audiences both in person and online the opportunity to reflect, remember and share an important moment together. The live webcast attracted more than 15,000 views within just 48 hours.

The Challenge

This wasn’t simply another live event. It was a once-in-a-generation commemoration where there would be no second take. The performance combined theatre, music and powerful storytelling, all delivered to a live audience while being broadcast online to thousands more. With limited rehearsal time and a fixed running order, every camera movement, audio cue and transition had to work perfectly from the very beginning.

The Solution

Our role was to make the production feel effortless for everyone involved. Working closely with the organisers, we carefully planned the camera positions, rehearsed key moments and built a production that captured both the emotion on stage and the atmosphere throughout the performance.

Rather than simply recording the event, we focused on telling the story as it unfolded, allowing online viewers to feel every reading, every performance and every moment of reflection as though they were sitting in the audience themselves.

The Results

The Hyde Park audience responded with two standing ovations, while the live webcast allowed thousands more people to experience the performance wherever they were watching. Within 48 hours the broadcast had been viewed more than 15,000 times, giving the production a far wider audience than would ever have been possible through the live event alone.
