Ellie Goulding Facebook Live Climate Webcast

How do you take an important climate conversation beyond the walls of a London venue? By filming it professionally and streaming it directly to audiences around the world.

WaveFX joined the production team at the Royal Institution to deliver a two-hour Facebook Live webcast featuring Ellie Goulding and speakers from politics, business and civil society.

The client brief

The event was produced by 5×15 and brought together an influential group of speakers, including actor Ralph Fiennes, political leaders from New Zealand and Fiji, and singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding.

As a Global Goodwill Ambassador for UN Environment, Ellie was helping to raise awareness of climate change, plastic pollution and the importance of young environmental campaigners.

The brief was to capture the complete event and broadcast it simultaneously across several Facebook pages

“WaveFX made the live broadcast feel so simple. They captured every speaker beautifully, managed the Facebook streams and helped us take the event to a much wider audience. We were so delighted with the result” Nick Brown, 5×15 Production Team

Audience size and locations

Around 400 guests attended the event at the Royal Institution, while the Facebook broadcast opened the conversation to several thousand additional viewers.

The online audience included people watching from the UK, Europe, North America and the Asia-Pacific region. Broadcasting through established Facebook pages also helped viewers discover, share and comment on the event as it happened.

Platforms used

The webcast was delivered through Facebook Live and distributed across several relevant pages. A full recording was also captured for future online viewing and promotional use.

Facebook was a natural platform for this event because it allowed viewers to respond to the discussion, share the broadcast and help its environmental message travel further.

Facebook Live event production setup

Our team supplied several 4K cameras to cover the speakers, audience and wider venue. The feeds were brought together through a live vision mixer, allowing our director to switch between camera angles throughout the two-hour event.

The live programme also included:

  • Speaker names and branded graphics
  • Pre-recorded films and presentation content
  • Live sound from the venue
  • A dedicated streaming connection
  • A full-quality master recording

Production challenges and how we addressed them

The event featured several speakers and different types of content, so the live running order needed careful coordination. We worked closely with the event producer and venue team to cue presentations, graphics and videos at the right moments.

Streaming to several Facebook pages also required advance testing. Each destination was checked before the event, with the stream monitored throughout the broadcast.

The Royal Institution remained open to an in-person audience, so our camera positions needed to capture the conversation without interrupting the experience in the room.

Measurable outcome

WaveFX delivered a continuous two-hour Facebook Live broadcast using multiple 4K cameras, live graphics, videos and professionally mixed sound.

The stream was distributed across several Facebook pages, connecting the event with thousands of viewers beyond the venue. The client also received a complete recording that could continue to be watched and shared after the live broadcast ended.
