Looking Beneath the Surface

Every day, millions of people rely on underground utilities without giving them a second thought. Water, electricity, gas and communications all travel beneath our feet, supported by a vast network of infrastructure that’s rarely seen.

Morrison Utility Services wanted a better way to explain the engineering behind that network. Traditional drawings and technical presentations could only tell part of the story, so they asked us to create an Engineering 3D Animation that would take viewers below ground and reveal exactly how their technology works.

The Challenge

Explaining complex engineering is never easy, especially when most of the work happens out of sight.

The project needed to communicate a highly technical process to a mixed audience of engineers, clients and stakeholders. It had to be technically accurate while remaining simple enough for anyone to understand, helping viewers visualise work that would normally remain hidden beneath roads and pavements.

The Solution

Using detailed CAD drawings and engineering data, we built a complete three-dimensional underground environment before creating a realistic Engineering 3D Animation that followed the entire process from start to finish.

Virtual cameras moved effortlessly beneath the surface, revealing buried services, underground structures and construction methods that simply couldn’t be filmed in the real world. Carefully animated graphics and realistic textures helped simplify complicated engineering without losing the technical detail that mattered.

The Results

The finished animation quickly became one of Morrison Utility Services’ most valuable communication tools.

It was used to explain engineering projects during client meetings, support tender presentations, assist staff training and showcase innovative working methods at industry events. Instead of relying on lengthy technical explanations, the animation allowed audiences to understand the process within minutes, making conversations clearer and far more engaging.
