Helping Big Ideas Reach the Right People

Great ideas can come from anywhere. Microsoft’s Axis programme was created to bring engineers together, encouraging them to share knowledge, solve problems and inspire one another through innovation.

Our job was to capture that spirit on film, producing a video that felt authentic, engaging and true to the people behind the technology. Rather than focusing on products, the story centred on collaboration, creativity and the ideas that help shape the future.

The Internal Communications Video Challenge

Innovation can be difficult to film. It’s not something you can simply point a camera at.

The challenge was creating a film that showcased Microsoft’s engineering culture without relying on technical language or corporate clichés. It needed to feel genuine, celebrate the people involved and communicate why programmes like Axis make such a difference across a global organisation.

The Solution

We worked closely with the Microsoft team to understand the story they wanted to tell before developing a filming style that felt open, natural and approachable.

By combining interviews, observational filming and carefully planned cinematography, we created a film that focused on the conversations, ideas and personalities behind the programme. Rather than explaining innovation, we allowed viewers to see it happening for themselves.

The Results

The finished film helped communicate the purpose of the Axis programme in a way that was engaging, accessible and easy to relate to. It gave Microsoft a versatile communications asset that could be shared internally while celebrating the people driving innovation across the business.

From the Crew

One of the things we enjoyed most about this project was meeting the people behind the technology. Every interview uncovered another story, another idea or another example of colleagues helping each other solve problems. Those moments often become the most memorable parts of a film because they’re real.

Our Advice

If you’re producing an internal communications film, don’t make it all about the business. Make it about the people. Audiences connect with genuine conversations, shared experiences and authentic stories far more than they do with corporate messaging. Get those right and the rest of the film usually takes care of itself.
